what is bridge in networking
Bridge is the device that can be used to interconnect two LANs (same logical link control protocol but may use different medium access control protocols) is known as a bridge. It is commonly used to connect two similar or dissimilar LANs designed to store and forward frames, it is protocol independent and transparent to the end stations. Bridge operates at the data link layer of the OSI model, which means the bridge cannot read IP addresses, but only the outermost hardware address of the packet. Use of bridges offers a number of advantages, such as higher reliability, performance, security, convenience and larger geographic coverage.
Types of bridge
♦ Transparent Bridges
♦ Source routing bridges
